Hanoi, December 4, 2007 -- The U.S. Embassy-Hanoi today announces the 2009 Fulbright Vietnamese Student Scholarship Program. Established in 1946 and funded by the U.S. Congress, the Fulbright Program aims at achieving mutual understanding through academic and cultural exchange.
The Fulbright Vietnamese Student Program is a competitive, merit-based scholarship program. The 2009 grantees will pursue a Master's degree program that begins in the academic year 2009-2010. The Fulbright Program will arrange placement at universities in the United States. The scholarship will cover tuition and fees, monthly stipend, round-trip airfare to the U.S. and health insurance.
Competition is open to all applicants who meet the following minimum criteria: be a Vietnamese citizen, have a four-year undergraduate degree, have at least one year of work experience after the date of undergraduate diploma by application deadline, have a valid minimum TOEFL score of 550 (paper-based) or 79 (iBT). Applicants cannot be a current employee or immediate employee-dependent of the U.S. Mission in Vietnam, or have earned a Bachelor's or Master's degree from a U.S. college or university within the last 3 years.
The Program supports study in most fields of social sciences and humanities, including American Studies, Communications, Education, Economics, MBA, Law, International Relations, Journalism, Library Science, Public Administration, Social work, Public Health, Public Policy, etc.
To participate in the competition, applicants must submit an Application form (download from the website http://vietnam.usembassy.gov/fulbright.html), two essays, notarized photocopies of diplomas and transcripts (including notarized English translations), three letters of reference, TOEFL score report.
The deadline of the application is April 4, 2008.
